Quarter Sawn Oak Partner's Desk
Full size quarter sawn oak partner's desk - including very unique quarter sawn oak surface. Fully restored and refinished, this desk would make a great addition to any office (home or business) providing a vast amount of surface and storage. Large enough for two, or to lay out plans, models, maps, etc while still having room for your desk accessories. Desk has eleven drawers (one center drawer missing) out of the original twelve.
The desk arrived in good structural condition, but someone too great care to cover a quarter sawn oak surface with a nice piece of maisonette.
As always we found details to restore or upgrade and the desk. There is a hole in the center of the desk, we debated about plugging it ... but realized most people will want to use a computer or device of some sort on the desk. Desk disassembles for easy transport and entrance into any home, even upper floors.
Found with a heavy, deteriorated, coat of what appears to be a wiping shellac varnish. Usually found as a thick layer, often crazed and discolored. The quarter sawn wood was almost undetectable through this discoloration.
The is now refinished in a shellac / tung oil handed rubbed finish. This finish is impervious to moister or alcohol, and renewable for generations of use.
Amazing the difference a finish makes, shown right, the rifts now stand out and the original patina allowed to take center stage.
Mission Style Golden Oak Rocker
This was a rocker found in typical condition, a broken arm, ruff finish, and dirty upholstery shown below. Restoring a piece like this brings back a lost treasure. The tiger sawn oak clearly shows throughout this entire chair.
Golden Oak Office Desk
A reclamation find - Urban Miners of Wallingford, CT is dedicated to finding discarded or unwanted items and finding new homes and lives for them.
This desk is one of our first batch of resale restorations, we decided to extend into a few speculation restorations. We'll be listing pieces on ebay and our website as we complete the projects.
This Lincoln Desk Company office desk is almost entirely quarter sawn oak, hard to see through it's originally grimy condition. Many treasures are uncovered when layers of dirt and deteriorated finishes are removed.
These desks were extremely well made, surviving years of abuse and usually multiple moves and new uses. Solid oak with quarter sawn oak veneer and all dove tall drawers. The desk required the usual re-gluing of stressed veneer sections, some glue in dovetails that shrunk slightly over the years, but overall it was in near excellent structural condition. Refinishing brought it back to life.
