Gothic Revival Writing Desk
This is a very unique piece, an ornately carved Lady's writing desk. A perfect hallway, bedroom, or living room accent piece. The piece has outstanding grain patterns throughout. Featuring a French striped walnut top, a rarer and rarer now as France is now severely restricting the export of this beautiful wood. The front facings are burl walnut, surrounded by ornate carving in solid oak throughout the piece.
This was almost entirely a finish restoration - a few minor fixes on the drawer slides and moldings, but the desk is extremely solid, far heavier than appears and is 100% structurally sound. Just one owner prior to our restoration. Highest quality structure available in Golden Oak. We refinished the entire desk in a hand rubbed tung oil finish, very durable - not affected by alcohol or water, and brings out the amazing grain in this piece.
We always wonder how people cover up a grain like this with lacquers or colored varnishes. There is only a simple golden oak penetrating stain on this surface now, brining out the grain and then protected with a satin tung oil finish.
Tiger Oak Dresser
This is one of the most impressive tiger oak grain patterns we've seen in a while. Heavy thick rifts in the white oak veneer are found on every exposed surface of this four drawer dresser.
This desk features an early form of machine cut joints on the drawers. A simple, yet amazingly strong, product circa 1880.
The dresser arrived with perhaps the thickest layers of finish we've ever seen inside the drawers. We were forced to strip this interior finish and replace the drawer bottoms on two drawers to restore this dresser.
The end result is well worth the effort. The unit, with new drawer bottoms, restructured joints throughout, and a brand new finish is ready to serve for many generations to come.
Golden Oak Secretary This heirloom piece was given some much needed revitalization. The finish is about shot, the glue is dried out and the integrity is compromised.
Restoration will include disassembly, refinishing, fresh glue, and possibly some new oak parts to replace some sections beyond repair.
Paired with a small Library Table, also in dire need of refinishing, the set makes a great small office storage and work surface. These pieces reflect the era of large rifted oak, offering a very unique grain pattern in all surfaces.
